Why
We all need to disconnect sometimes. To let go of time, give the brain a break, and just focus on something else for a while. My way is music.
Music should be listened to but also felt. The high frequencies shimmer in your ears while the lows push against you.
Tracks and sounds are tools for telling a story and for building tension and then releasing it. This creates emotion and frisson if you are lucky.
Start dancing and your heart rate climbs, cortisol drops, endorphins release. It's exercise disguised as pleasure.
You can do this alone but something happens when you do it with others (friends or strangers). Its even measurable and called a synchrony effect that boosts oxytocin and you feel part of something. Even if you are an introvert, like me, you're no longer alone in a crowd. You become part of a crowd.
So smile. Be kind and make the people around you feel part of the crowd.
